Young as she is at 13 years old, Tiare Thompson has just got signed on to the USA Surf Team.
Tiare Nicole Thompson was born on February 16, 2001 in La Jolla, California and she is being raised in Bird Rock in La Jolla. It has been years since her father, Foster Thompson, introduced her to the sport at age four. Her first wave was in Kiddieland on the Island of Tavarua in Fiji, where her father used to provide guided trips to tourists.
Foster pushed Tiare into the waves and then she was just up and riding. Seeing that, he saw that even as early as that, Tiare will surely grow up to be a surfer. It does not come as such a surprise though because her mother, Annalena, is from Hawaii and Foster is from La Jolla. With the ocean just in their backyard, surfing has become a significant part in their lives.
And sure enough, surfing has stuck to Tiare. She started surfing on her own when she was just six years old. She started surfing competitively in 2007 and she has already been filling a room of surfing trophies from different topnotch events.
At the age of six, she was 5th Place in the Rell Sunn Menehune Championships Girls 7-9 LB. And then at the age of seven, she was the 2008 Roxy Cardiff Jam Teenie Wahine Champion in the Girls U9 division.
In the Surfing America Prime, which is invitation only, she was called to compete in 2 of the 6 events at the age of 10 with 18 other surfers in the Girls U16 division in the 2010-2011 Season. Meanwhile in the 2011-2012 Season, Tiare finished as ranked 7th out of 20 surfers in the Girls U16 division. This win qualified her to be invited to the Surfing America USA Championships in June 2012.
She also participated in Western Surfing Association (WSA) and National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) events, where she also emerged victorious.
With all these achievements, Tiare is considered to be one of the top four best U.S. surfers under 16. And she very well deserves the praise.
Signing on to the USA Surf Team with three other young surfers is a great feat and now they are gearing up for the Olympics. As of right now, there is no surfing competition in the Olympics but Team USA is preparing for the possibility. World class coaches will train Tiare to be ready for what is to come and for her to showcase her undeniable talent and skills to the world.
These are all just part of her start to a great and massive surfing career. Someday, she is aiming to hold a world title for herself.
Anyhow, aside from being a surfer, Tiare also values her education and she wants to be a marine biologist. You will still really see how she loves the water and the ocean.
Indeed, Tiare is a young surfing phenomenon that will have a bright future. That world title she aspires will no doubt come to her with her love and passion for her sport!
